How to Safely Dispose of Your AI Flight Battery

If your AI Flight Battery is damaged, swollen, or no longer holding a charge, it’s important to recycle it correctly. Lithium batteries are designed for high performance, but they require care at the end of their life to keep you and the environment safe.

When to Retire Your Battery

Look out for these signs:

  • Bulging or swelling
  • Leaking fluid
  • Unusual smells or discolouration
  • Becoming unusually hot during use or charging

If you notice any of these, it’s time to replace it with a new AI Flight Battery.

Steps to Dispose of a Damaged Battery

Step 1: Keep It Out of Household Bins

  • Lithium batteries should never be placed in household rubbish or recycling.

Step 2: Discharge the Battery (If Safe)

  • If your battery is in good physical condition but no longer holds a charge, you can carefully discharge it fully by flying the drone at a low altitude until it powers down. Skip this step if the battery is physically damaged, swollen, or leaking.

Step 3: Store the Battery Safely

  • Place the battery in a fireproof container (like a metal box or LiPo-safe bag) and keep it away from flammable materials until disposal.

Step 4: Take It to a Battery Recycling Point

In New Zealand, you can drop off damaged lithium batteries at:

  • Bunnings NZ (battery recycling bins at selected stores)
  • Mire 10 (check your local store)
  • Council recycling centres

Find your nearest recycling location at recycling.kiwi.nz

Recycling batteries ensures valuable materials are recovered and prevents environmental harm. It also ensures a safe home and workplace environment. For the best flying experience, always use official Aeroo Pro batteries and accessories.
