Do I Need a License or Registration to Fly the Aeroo Pro?

In New Zealand, the requirement for a license or registration to fly the Aeroo Pro drone depends on the purpose of your flight — recreational or commercial.

Recreational Use:

If you're flying the Aeroo Pro purely for fun or personal enjoyment, and not for any commercial gain, you are not required to register the drone or obtain a license. However, you must adhere to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) drone safety rules.

Safety Rules Include:

  • Flying only during daylight hours and in good weather conditions.
  • Keeping the drone within visual line of sight at all times.
  • Not flying over people, populous areas, or within 4km of controlled aerodromes.
  • Not flying higher than 120m above ground level.

For a comprehensive list of rules, refer to CAA's drone safety guidelines.

Commercial Use:

If you intend to use the Aeroo Pro for commercial purposes — such as selling aerial photos or videos, inspecting infrastructure, or any activity where you receive remuneration — you must:

  • Register the Drone (if required).
  • Get Part 102 Certification to operate outside standard rules or with heavier drones.
